Description The book is the product of an initiative of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA). The aim is to describe a world standard of guidelines for diagnosis of liver diseases in dogs and cats, using both histological and clinical criteria. Reviews This book proposes to provide a unified description if the currently recognised liver diseases in cats and dogs. Until recently, no strict guidelines existed for choosing the correct clinical and histopathological term to describe specific liver diseases. This problem made it difficult to study and compare the prognosis, response to treatment and progression of these individual hepatopathies in small animals. A group of well-recognised scientists in veterinary hepato-gastroenterology, clinical pathologists and renowned clinicians from Europe, the US and Australia joined in their efforts to create such guidelines in the shape of this book and, in the process, started an initiative to approach liver disease in a more scientific way. All chapters are nicely illustrated with pictures of the macroscopic, ultrasonographic or histopathological typical appearance of the disease processes. In summary, this is a good and well-illustrated book, which would be of use for clinicians dealing with patients with liver disease, pathologists and those interested in diagnostic imaging. Yaiza Forcada, Veterinary Times, Vol 37 No. 5 - 19th Feb 2007 Key Features -standard reference for pathologists and specialists, as well as general vets in practice only available standard for making well defined diagnosis based on histological and clinical criteria for liver diseases in small animals describes world standardization of guidelines for diagnosis of liver diseases in dogs and cats, using both histological and clinical criteria. supported by WSAVA giving it a worldwide appeal
