The aims of Translating Voices, Translating Regions are to explore the question of practices and theories in the translation of marginal voices, not only in written literature, but also in audio-visual translation in general and dubbing in particular, a process which is particularly strong in the French and Italian film industries. The research gathered here deals with these two areas of practice and theory through a variety of approaches reflecting the most recent thinking in translation studies, and offering a stimulating range of theoretical perspectives. The volume is addressed to scholars and students interested in the burgeoning field of regionalism in translation. Contributions by Beverly Adab, Nigel Armstrong, Antonella De Nicola, Riccardo Duranti, Federico M. Federici, Chiara Ferrari, Anna Fochi, Cosetta Gaudenzi, Phyllis Gaffney, Edwin Gentzler, Noeleen Hargan, Stefano Leoncini, J. Derrick McClure, Anne Marie Miraglia, Roshni Mooneeram, Jeremy Munday, Sergio Patou-Patucchi, Irene Ranzato, Jean-Louis Sarthou, Christopher J. Taylor, Anita Weston, Kathryn Woodham, Chantal Wright.Nigel Armstrong researches French sociolinguistics and translation in the University of Leeds, UK. Linguistic research focuses on social and regional variation in spoken French. Projects in a popular-cultural perspective apply the study of linguistic variation to how dialogue used in popular-cultural products like films and animated cartoons transfers across languages. Translation, Linguistics, Culture (2005) and an article in the «Journal of Specialised Translation», on voicing "The Simpsons" into French, typify this approach. Federico M. Federici researches creative translation in Calvino's writings. Main research interests lie in stylistics, ideology, and reception of translations (especially Audiovisual Translations). Author of Insider or Outsider (2003) on Roddy Doyle's poetics and articles on regionalized literature and translation into Italian.
