The retranslation of italian cinema classics. Antonioni, De Sica, Fellini and Rossellini in the UK from the 1950s to the 2010s

Retranslation in audiovisual translation has not been as widely investigated as in the literary domain but interest in this area of research has grown in a more systematic way during the past decade. However, while research on redubbing has been fairly active, resubtitling has long remained unresearched from a retranslation perspective. Drawing on archival research, this book explores audiovisual retranslation focusing on Italian films distributed in the UK between the 1950s and the 2010s. The aim is to establish whether any diachronic variation can be detected in the way culture is (re)transmitted through film translation.
