The problem of the relationship between theory and practice has a long and complex history. Is there a way of rethinking that relationship in the light of the deep transformations generated by recent philosophical and empirical investigations? In this volume, the contributors discuss this issue from the point of view of analytic epistemology, theory of action and cognitive science. They also address the metaphilosophical question of the relation between philosophy and science, casting new light on the problem and suggesting possible solutions. Some of the central themes of contemporary philosophy are discussed, including the challenges to naturalism coming from cognitive science, the controversies concerning the concepts of truth, objectivity and relativism, the theories of moral and epistemic action, the pragmatic roots of logic and metaphysics, the proposals of feminist philosophies, the philosophical questions raised by relativistic physics, geometry, logic and psychology. The book also includes discussions of Kant, Riemann, Mach, Poincaré, Einstein, Schlick, Reichenbach, and Wittgenstein.
