How does one learn to design? Is it possible to teach it? To design means to apply an intuition to the real world. Planning as such is an exclusively human activity, just as discovering reality is primarily done by children to understand the dynamics of our world. In the history of architecture, to design means to test our limits and the environment. This study investigates the roots of architectural design through playing. A didactical experience with children between the ages of 5 and 11. Through 8 experiences, this book analyses the capability of children to respond to unknown needs by using their imagination. The suggestions are based on practical observations on architecture, which are directed towards a thesis that links the worlds of adults and that of children: adult design is based on the natural evolution of child experimentation. This study ideally is related to identifying a didactical method for planning. This study is conceived to identify a didactical method for composition in architecture.
