The purpose of this volume is a rapid analysis of the Pharma Standard products of common use as food supplements (PS). These compounds, although very different in terms of composition, are in all respects of physiological modulators, since they are natural derivatives not produced by chemical synthesis (physiological), and can adjust some functions of our body (modulators): Their activity can be beneficial and, theoretically, also toxic depending upon the intrinsic characteristics and dosage. The first part of the book describes the general characteristics of PS (composition, biological and clinical activity), while the second part outlines the clinical uses in support to different diseases, underlining those aimed to the “proof of concept”. A chapter is devoted to focus some of the key elements for a correct study and nomenclature of these products. Overall, the book is a quick and comprehensive examination to orient health professionals (doctors, pharmacists, nutritionists, dieticians) in the universe that is constantly changing and unfortunately prone to too easy sophistication.
