Nannerl Mozart

Nannerl Mozart (1751-1829) was only a child when her ambitious father snuck her into play music around the courts of Europe impressing them with her astonishing keyboard skills. Yet her concert-touring career ended when she was only 18. The child prodigy – which had in her soul the drive and the restlessness of the genius – would be overshadowed by her father in favour of her younger brother, Wolfgang Amadeus. Forced to hide her compositions from a young age, and even forced to give piano lessons to support her younger “miracle boy” brother’s musical activity, Nannerl drew in on herself, becoming surly, and an embarrassment to her family navigating the uneasy waters of social prejudice.
