Teaching English to young children is a challenging but rewarding activity through which it is possible to get children more open to and interested in other cultures, thus building that multicultural competence leading to tolerance and acceptance of the otherness. Following the EU Commission recommendation to envisage the early teaching of a foreign language as the best way to give children an advantage for their future careers, as well as the first necessary step towards the creation of a European citizenship, English for Children aims to provide prospective teachers with a background knowledge of the discipline known as English Language Teaching and to help them find their way through the plethora of theories, methods, and techniques that characterize the state of the art.Maria Cristina Consiglio completed her PhD in Translation Studies with a dissertation about Neoclassical adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays. Her present post–doctoral research is about the relationship between D.H. Lawrence and Italy. She has published on Nahum Tate’s adaptations of Shakespeare’s King Lear and Richard II, on the translation of multilingual novels, on corpus stylistics. At present she is part–time lecturer in English language at the Faculty of Educational Sciences and at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Bari.
