Bridging Gaps And Crossing Taxts. A Workbook Of English For Humanities Students

This book is meant for upper-intermediate and advanced students in English language for Humanities. It is based on a heterogeneous corpus of texts: from political discourse to music, from graphic novels to television, and it is meant to fill in a gap still existing in the range of resources available for the study of English at university level. The study of subjects like literature, history, philosophy and the like requires a wide knowledge of the many nuances and layers articulating a language, as a necessary skill to engage in deeper analyses and critical approaches to the broad range of possible texts that the students are invited to read and explore. The book is organized into five sections, each of them focusing on a specific genre: Speeches, Music, Images, TV series, and Writing. Within each section attention has been given to offer a range of different materials, so as to excite the curiosity and capture the interest of students with different backgrounds and educational goals.Maria Giovanna Fusco teaches English Language at the University of Naples “L’Orientale” and American Literature at the Universities of Padua and Trieste. Her research interests span from XIX century novels to gender studies and American TV. She is working on a book bringing together the teaching practice of English as a foreign language and the analysis of TV series as a transnational phenomenon. Fiorenzo Iuliano teaches English Language at the University of Naples “L’Orientale” and holds a scholarship from Jan Van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. He has published on gender studies, cultural studies and American literature, and is currently working on a book focusing on death and popular American culture. His translation of Gertrude Stein’s Geography and Plays has been recently published.
