This semi-diplomatic edition of the Alchoran latinus provides the text of the first Latin translation of the Qur’an (1142), created under the aegis of Peter the Venerable and completed by Roger of Ketton and Herman of Dalmatia, taken from the earliest manuscript in which it is preserved. It offers both the text and the numerous examples of marginalia that were included as part of the process of copying. The introduction uncovers the stages of copying and the formation of the wider collection of texts on Islam, the Corpus cluniacense. The Latin translation is also keyed to the individual verses of the Qur’an.
